It sounds like a mess. Too many concessions to unAmerican and unconstitutional programs. The government is NOT a charity. I was concerned about this when they tried to cram everything into one big bill but I understand time constraints too.
Well, in order to pass legislation you have to have votes. In order to get votes when you have a super-slim majority you have to make concessions. If this legislation doesn’t pass in some form, the tax cuts from Trumps first term will expire, causing some economic pain. Also, until we as a country are ready to deal with our main drivers of debt which are medicare and social security, all this discretionary spending we are complaining about is barely a drop in the bucket. So if you want to deal with our debt, start talking about dealing with mandatory spending (medicare and SS). All that said, i think the Government should always do less, spend less, and make sure Americans are killing fewer babies.
I do not like how there are warnings of a year to make changes, allow for people to rush to meet deadlines. Yet I also think about how much has been invested by the bad policies of the Green Deal stuff and i do not believe those were implemented overnight, but rather slowly eroding away at what was to create what we now have. Does not the same type of rebuilding also need to take place so the changes stick? To zig-zag back and forth with the change of each administration makes for the equivalent of spinning in circles, accomplishing nothing. I want to think that someone is trying to play the long game; betting they will do good enough to get another 4-8 years after Trumps term and accomplish more with the next congress, the next republican president, etc. I pray this is what is happening. And as for the AI stuff, as much as I do not like AI, my intuition tells me that it is the only way to get illegal immigration under control. There are too many loopholes because our systems do not talk to each other (DMV, SS, Employment verification, Immigration, etc). And biblically we know this must come to pass. We must trust the Lord and who he has placed in authority. Only He knows the plan.
It never changes. No matter who is elected. I think elected officials lose their morality and conscience when they get to Washington. Sometimes I wish we could burn it all down, but, what would rise up in its place? Something even worse? I will freely admit I have zero respect for Congressional and Senate members. Nothing changes, because nothing changes. As Rachel has said.
At this point, just scrap it and start over! The Senate also needs to be scraped. This country's "leaders" are a disgrace. They DO NOT care about the middle class or the poor in this country. We might as well still be owned by another country ( which essentially we are - China)

ALSO, why is no one mentioning all of the revenue being created by the tariffs and the Gold Cards (whether you like them or not, 70,000 have been sold at $5M a pop). So Trump IS trying to bring down the deficit in other ways. You have to address these things if you want to be intellectually honest about our debt.

Pass a separate bill to extend the tax cuts and then break this OBBB down into smaller chunks. WHY such a giant bill?
