Awesome article. Thank you for putting it together! I was thinking that we are so used to looking up things on the internet and w/o it we would be lost. We purchased a book that has all kinds of practical instructions on these survival things. I believe it is called The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Country Living by Gehring. Maybe you know of a a better one? Also a few cast iron pans would be helpful if we need to cook by fire.
I *highly* recommend the movie The Reliant. It is definitely a bit intense (only for more mature teens and up), but it is a realistic scenario that I think we should all prepare for. Kevin Sorbo is in the movie, and it does have a Christian basis -- but knowing what we may face in our communities in the coming months or years is eye opening. It really pushed my husband and me into “overdrive” in thinking of our own prepping and things we can do to set our children up for success should terror and hell on earth arrive on our doorstep. // I would also add extra socks, clothes, blankets, and a tent or two to your list!
Thank you for putting this together! I am one of the people who procrastinate things like basic prep because I just take for granted the usual accommodations will be there. Like you said, we don’t need to swing drastically to either side- read the times and respond wisely and prudently using the resources the Lord has given us.
Great article!!! Thank you so much for putting it together!
Do you have any resources/recommendations for 401k/Roth IRAs for current employees? How to wisely invest or take out of the market to prepare for the coming times? (Not particularly financial advice! Just information)
I’m so glad you are preparing fellow Headliners. I’m astonished by the number of people that are totally reliant on a grocery store to keep their children alive and fed. Nobody is coming to do it for us. We have to do it ourselves. Just last week hubs said we will be joining a local gun club in early ‘24 because the whole family needs to be proficient. That’s scary.
I would add to have a backpack for every person in the household that is filled with everything they might need for 72 hrs. This could be grabbed with a moments notice if you had to leave your home. I would also put small games in them as well as sticker books, etc for toddlers.
Wonderful article, Rachel! I always enjoy reading suggestions on preparedness from different people as I glean unique ideas and products from each person. Thank you for the time in putting this together. One thing I would add is reusable silicone period cups for the gals in the family. I just bought them for me and my two teenage girls and we were all like “eww”. But a good thing to have if you can’t get to the stores for feminine products!

This is a fantastic post, Rachel! Thank you for sharing - you directed me to some resources that I’ve been wondering how to procure.
I’m mostly concerned with a water storage system.
