Well, it’s official. It was announced just a few hours ago that the swearing-in of Donald Trump and JD Vance will take place indoors. Of course, this was a disappointment to the huge crowds heading into D.C. to witness it firsthand (only a limited amount of people will be allowed in the Capitol Rotunda), but it was a relief to many people who are concerned about the safety of the President-elect and other officials.
Trump took to “Truth Social” to express his continued excitement for Monday’s festivities and encourage his supporters to still come out and celebrate - he clearly isn’t letting the inclement weather dampen the mood. And, to be honest, this isn’t unprecedented. Bad weather has descended on the D.C. Metro area in years past and interrupted Inauguration Day more than once. I thought it might be fun to travel back in the time machine and remember when adjustments needed to be made, and Americans braved the snow, sleet, and rain to be witness to a wonderful national tradition…
