RAPID-FIRE WEDNESDAYđ„: Dawn Dispatch // July 15th
Thoughts On The Little House on the Prairie Reboot, ICE Shootings, Noem Divorce, War In Iran Developments, And Much More...
Good morning, friends!
As promisedâŠBefore we get to the rapid-fire headlines, I want to go a bit more in-depth on several topics dominating the news cycle and share my thoughts on the new âLittle House on the Prairieâ reboot on Netflix.
First, I want to make it clear that this isnât a comprehensive review of the show. I havenât watched the entire thing (not sure Iâll finish, not because I hate it, but because there are only so many hours in a day), so I personally donât have a complete idea of what the whole series contains.
That being said, Iâll start by saying that before I even watched the first episode, I saw these comments by showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine on why she rebuilt the frontier classic around a new lens:
"I think a lot of our pop culture portrays the West as men riding around with guns and solving problems with violence and posturing, but that is just not how it was settled... We really are trying to do a show that does not fall back on tropes of sort of masculinity."
Right away, I understood that the lens through which they were creating this new show was colored by themes and intentions that guide so much of the new âwokeâ (I hate that word, but you get it) content we are seeing pop up in art, cinema, television, and literature. The goal is less about honoring the original and more about creating something entirely different.
And thatâs what the show is: a brand new creation.
